IP Telephony.

We can advise on solutions ranging from home use or small businesses up to the hosted solutions often used by major corporates (for more information on how VOIP can help your business click here).

The high cost of traditional TDM PBX-based telephone technology prevents many small businesses from adopting advanced telecommunications solutions. The combination of low-cost VoIP calls and PBX functionality can now yield significant savings to most any business.

Home Users

Residential VoIP is really starting to take off as people realize the true benefits that it offers.

VoIP Reduces Call Cost
The single biggest attraction in a residential VoIP solution is the reduction in call cost. As VoIP utilizes the internet to make calls, and usually you don’t actually have to pay anything to call another VoIP user.

  • Vastly reduced call costs!
  • Call other VoIP users anywhere in the world for free!
  • Call your friends and family for free!
  • No more long distance international call charges!
  • Video calls for free

Combine Voice And Data Systems
Not only does a VoIP solution make calling cheaper, it also reduces the cost of your infrastructure at home. VoIP connects to the internet via a network in order to make a call, so you do not need a standard phone line connection. This means that you can save money by using just one system.

  • Combine your voice and data networks!
  • VoIP removes the need to run a network and telephone system side by side.
  • Use just one single internet connection and get calls and internet access!

Share Data And Talk At The Same Time
With a home VoIP solution you can talk on the phone to a relative in Australia and send them pictures at the same time. The call would be free, and you would be using the same connection to fulfill both voice and data functions - saving you money! VoIP also means that more than one person can use the telephone line at the same time;

  • VoIP Gives You Freedom
  • Share pictures, music and documents with friends over the internet while talking on the phone.
  • Multiple people can use the same VoIP connection to call friends and family at the same time!
  • Keep in touch with your gaming clan friends via the telephone while you play games online!

Why use VOIP and IP Telephony?

There are two major reasons;

  • Lower Cost
  • Increased functionality

Lower Cost
Usually IP telephony and VoIP costs less than the equivalent traditional PBX solutions, primarily due to cost savings by using a single network to carry both voice and data. This is especially true when users have existing under-utilised network capacity that they can use for VOIP without any additional costs.

Increased Functionality
VOIP makes some things much easier compared to traditional phone networks.  Moving phones with an Office is simply just unplug it and move it to your new location. Your incoming calls are automatically routed to your VOIP phone where ever you plug it into the network.

If you have a sofphone on your laptop and a connection back to your main office (VPN), then you could take your VOIP phone with you on a trip, and anywhere you connect it to the Internet, you could receive your incoming calls.

Call center agents using VOIP phones can easily work from anywhere, even home, with a good Internet connection.

What is VoIP?

The internet has transformed the way we shop and bank and now it looks set to revolutionise the telephone call. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is one of the converged technologies behind this communication revolution, it turns the Internet infrastructure into a giant global telephone network. Make your calls over the internet rather than a phone line, and you could save yourself money.

Put simply, your voice is carried over an internet connection (usually broadband, though technically it is possible to use VoIP over a dial-up, or narrowband, connection). This type of connection is much more cost-effective than a traditional phone line, which can mean big cost savings.  We believe it is the good news for consumers who can make phone calls worldwide at very low or no cost and benefit from great features that traditional telephone companies don’t offer for free.

Whether you are a home or business user, VoIP allows you to unleash the power of the Internet to make high quality low price calls to anywhere in the world.

Getting Started?

If you have broadband at home or at work, you could implement basic VoIP services. Using the internet to call is really easy. Anybody can do it. Even if you are new to computers and the internet, you can be chatting very shortly. It is as easy and simple to use as your regular telephone. Just think of it as a different handset.

The software is often free to download, with Skype being one of the most popular, so you’ll only need to pay for a headset or handset adapter. Millions of people are already using Skype and enjoying the ability to keep in contact with people for free. Remember that if you want to call your family or friends they must also have the same software and broadband.

The first thing you need to do is check your internet connection. Making calls over the internet works best if you have a high speed or broadband connection. The speed is necessary so that your connection is clear otherwise it will be much like placing an old fashioned trans-Atlantic phone call; full of static.

The next thing you need is the proper program for making internet calls. There are so many to choose from, it can be quite bewildering. If you are already using an instant messenger, check if they will allow you to make calls as well. MSN Messenger for example already provides you with this service. One advantage of using this is that you already have a ready contact list that you can already reach. No need to remember any phone numbers since their user ID already links you to them.

Once you have chosen your software, you need to check your equipment. Quite a number of programs will need nothing more than your PC or laptop, a good pair of speakers and a microphone. Most people choose a combination headset and microphone for comfort.

If you want you can use an IP phone to replace your ordinary phone and hook it directly into your router. An IP phone usually has the necessary software installed so you need not download any software for your PC. With Wi-Fi now becoming readily available, this is a great option.

You do need to keep in mind that some programs will only allow you to contact someone using the same software as well. Others will allow you to make calls to land lines as well. Most will not allow you to place calls to directory services or to emergency services.
