Security - Norton Anti-Virus. A must for an Internet connected PC An antivirus tool is a must for any computer connecting to the Internet and Norton's Antivirus is one of the top two products in this field. You can not go wrong with this product and one year of free updates is included. By default updates are automatically downloaded by the LiveUpdate program or you can select to be notified when new updates are available. Norton Antivirus is very comprehensive and includes auto-protect (checks programs for viruses as they are run), scanning of both incoming and outgoing email, scanning of any Instant Messenger, regular hard disk scans and script blocking. The latter prompts you to confirm the action to be taken when a potentially dangerous script is run. As with any virus checking program it is worth temporarily disabling virus checking and script blocking when you are installing new programs to prevent potential installation problems. If you dont have a firewall then Nortons Internet Security 2003 offers better value for money than buying separate antivirus and firewall packages. Security's a complicated subject but the clear and simple interface on Norton AntiVirus 2003 shows you what you're protected against, how up to date your virus definitions are, when you last checked your whole system--anything you need to worry about is marked in red. Installation is simple: you can accept all the defaults without worrying and you'll be prompted to go online and get up-to-date definitions as soon as you install. Features
If it finds a virus, the software will try to automatically repair the file. As well as looking for known viruses, the Bloodhound feature tries to spot new viruses and worms by the way they behave. And as well as checking files already on your PC the software checks files you download from the Web, in e-mail--and now in instant messages. If you use MSN Messenger you'll need to reboot; other messaging tools are protected straight away. With e-mail, Norton AntiVirus 2007 can check incoming and outgoing messages and files in POP3 clients like Outlook Express; the previous version would stop you getting infected by an e-mail worm and this update stops you passing the infection on. Checking your system and downloading updates are two things you need to do regularly; Norton AntiVirus 2007 makes them relatively painless by setting up a full scan once a week and checking for new updates whenever you're online. Running a full scan does take time and you don't get any estimate of how long; a large drive can take 30 minutes or even an hour and it ties up a lot of your PC's power. Running in the background hardly slows your PC down at all, though. Product Description
